Description: Course Title: Interactive programs with Javascript for Beginners (M-W 3pm) Course Description: Students will learn about the models for user interaction with computer programs, and develop skills to design interfaces between the user and code. One of the main focuses of the course will be the Javascript language, which is used in websites everywhere to create dynamic and interactive pages. The class will teach students to build responsive applications that can react to the user. For beginning learners, the Scratch language can be used to reduce the complexity of code they need to write. Students will get a glimpse into front end website development and the various tools and frameworks used today based on the Javascript language. Course Potential Topics List: Introduction to interfaces using Scratch language Discussion of user input Important components of dynamic code Introduction to Javascript Programming Javascript in websites Creating an interactive web page Creating a small app on the web Alternative: Using Scratch to build interactive apps Short Bio: Daniel Li is a freshman at Brown University studying math and computer science. He is interested in learning about theoretical CS and full-stack web development. Daniel is a two-time qualifier for the USA Math Olympiad and is interested in continuing to pursue research in mathematics in the future. He is currently working on developing his own website to help groups plan and track tasks over the internet. He is passionate about his studies and is excited to get students interested in coding and computer science. He is also an avid bird enthusiast, and loves to go out to take photos while birdwatching.
