Description:	Logic is at the root of every coherent use of words: essays, arguments, conversations, discussions, etc. all find their foundation in and derive meaning from logic. And yet many people are wholly unaware of the laws, rules, and applications of logic, leading them to make bad, unpersuasive arguments. In this class, students will learn the formal rules of logic, especially as they relate to forming arguments. Students will be introduced to a formal logic system, learn the complex inference rules of that system, and discuss how to represent colloquial speech using that system. We will also spend some time talking about logical fallacies and logic as it relates to writing, especially in pieces where appearing logical is absolutely critical as in opinion essays and college admissions/applications essays.
