Correction: School closed on Dec. 20, 2009

Time: 2009-12-20 10:13:13 -- Number: 116

Dear all SCCS parents and teachers, Now after confirmed with a number of sources, SCSU is closed today. So, the Chinese School will not open today. My earlier message is not correct and I am sorry for that. If you can, please help me by making phone call to clearfy the confusion. This also implies that our school will remain closed (in winter recess) until the next semester, which will start at 1:20pm on Jan. 24, 2010. On that day, we will resume all programs including Chinese Language and Enrichment classes. We will make up the snow days in May. Any activities that were planned on Dec. 20, 2009 should be resumed on Jan 24, 2010, including the final exams and youth group party, etc. The school will be then being back to the normal schedule after the first school week. However, the schedule for Chinese New Year Celebration will remain the same, and it is on Feb 21, 2010. Taking this opportunity, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all people who have supported our school throughout the year. This year, we have had numerous parents participated in the safety patrol team. Because of you, we have had significant improvement in school safety and the school has been in good order. The PTA leadership and in particularly the safety team have played a critical role to maintain the school order. Without this, the teachers and I would not have been able to stay focused on the teaching, our main school goal. Also, the Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), our host school, did tremendous work on the improvement of our school safety. I especially want to Ann and Nichol, the two on-site coordinators from SCSU, who stay at the School every Sunday. Especially, on last Sunday (12-13-2009), they stayed in the raining and guarded our parents, teachers and students from stepping on the black ice in the front of entry door. When you see them, please say thank you for their work. I want to thank the student award (points) group. I know the workload is very high: from bookkeeping, inventory management, to running the shops, etc. It is a very challenging task to maintain a good balance between the students need and a tight budget. They often run against a tight timeline. I want to congratulate them for overcoming all these difficulties and keep the shops open for many times, thanks to the effective leadership and the huge help from a large number of parents. The teachers did great job for this semester. This is my first term of principal position, and I appreciated their support and willing to joint my Teaching Skill Committee. I know that some of them have high workload because of student number is over 20 (in both Language class and enrichment class). I know that some of them thought of different ways to design the teaching material. I know that some of them kept loading the homework to the website even under the limited support from the School Administration. I know that some of them are studying different textbook and looking for the good one for this school. Each of our teachers has a unique aspect. Some teacher have a very effective way to control classroom order; some teacher have a very effective way to increase teaching efficiency; some teacher have a good way to encourage kids to have interests to learning Chinese. Next year, I anticipate that we will have more unique. My administration team has worked very hard to meet members needs. I dont know how many pieces of e-mails dealt by Xinjian, but you can see him in the School principal office almost every Sunday. I dont know how many records and reports needed to be kept and run, checks needed to be written by Fu Laoshi, but she takes care of them when needed. I dont know how many phone calls made by Ming Yuan regarding the math program, but you see the math teaching is increasing. I dont know how many emergencies have been resolved by Zhang Jing, but you always have access to the school website. You may ask what jobs done by Fan Laoshi, let me tell you that all textbooks your kids have were handled by her, and she is a key player to ensure teaching quality. I would like to thank the entire administration team for their hard work! The last, but not the least, I want to thank the Board for their trust in our administrative team, for their honesty and earnest to keep members interest as their top priority; for the open communication; for their tireless work, and for their support. Next year, we will continue to keep our main focus on the improvement of the Chinese language teaching activity. By chance, I had a teaching to 8th grader for 30 min, and to the first grader for 15 min this year. I recently finished test-survey for the 4th grade, and was planned (will be postponed to next semester) to finish the same evaluation tests for the 2nd and 3rd grade. Next year, I plan to complete this evaluation test to 5th grade and above. I hope after finishing all evaluation tests we will have a clearer and better understanding of the levels of Chinese language of our students and enable us to design better teaching strategies. Thank you all for your support and trust in us! Together, we can make a better school and better community. Happy holidays! SCCS Principal Phone: 203-228-8422
