Dear SCCS members, Happy Autumn! I hope you are enjoying this gorgeous weather on the first day of October. Hope everything is going well with you and your child this semester. Here I would like to give you a heads up on some upcoming events and activities at SCCS in October: • Oct. 6 School Store Open (Location: Cafeteria) Parents: please persuade your child to use the tokens she or he has earned. Saving is a virtue; but if students keep on accumulating their “money” rather than spend it, our school will soon run out of tokens. • Oct. 13 School Open as Normal • Oct. 20 No School – South Connecticut State University Open House • Oct. 27 Film Viewing: School’s Out: Lessons from a Forest Kindergarten Followed by a discussion with the film producer, Rona Richter, on topics related to different philosophies of education, and cross- national/cross- cultural teaching and learning. More details will be sent out later. In addition to the above events at SCCS, there is also an exciting event for high school students at Yale this fall: Annual Yale Scientific Magazine National Essay Competition. Thanks to the nomination by an alumnus of our school (currently a Yale undergraduate student), we are invited to participate in this competition. All Grades 9-12 students in our school are eligible to submit an entry and have a chance to win a prize. For more details on this contest, please see the attached PDF file. Finally, we are now preparing for our first newsletter of Year 2013- 2014, and we would like to invite students, parents and teachers to contribute articles or share information to our newsletter at newsletter@ynhchineseschool.org.
