Description:	The Intermediate chess class focuses much more on chess tactics and strategy. Students in the Intermediate class should already have a solid understanding of the chess rules, check and checkmate and can play a complete game. Topics covered include: Active Moves, Opening Principles, Scholar's Mate, Pins, Skewer, Discovered Attacks, Forks, Remove the Defender, Battery, Interference, Back-Rank Mate, X-Ray, En Passant, Algebraic Notation, Convert the Advantage, Attacking the Castled King and Tournament Skills. A course reader made up of selected chess puzzles will be provided (in PDF format) for students to review topics as homework. Enrolled students are able to participate in optional weekly Hamden Chess Club online tournaments at no additional cost during the term they are enrolled.
