Description:	Intermediate Chess Class focuses on tactics and strategy. Students in this class should already have a solid understanding of basic chess rules, check and checkmate and be able to play a complete game. Topics include: Active Moves, Opening Principles, Pins, Skewers, Discovered Attacks, Interference, X-Ray Attacks, En Passant, Attacking the Castled King and Tournament Skills. NEW in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022: SCCS students enrolled in SCCS chess classes will have the option of challenging fellow SCCS students to chess games online during the week, through the entire term. A private online class list for SCCS chess students will be set up to facilitate this and make it easy to challenge one another to chess games! In addition, SCCS chess students will continue to have the option of entering and playing in weekly online tournaments organized by the Hamden Chess Club at no additional cost, and a chance to win gift card prizes.
