Description: Ellen Chen, a passionate rising senior with a strong love for art, literature, and science, has run the pencil drawing class for two years in our Chinese school. Her artworks have been published in New York Times, received numerous international, national and regional awards, and exhibited in the Portland Museum of Art, Bruce Museum, Rye Art Center, Sharron Art Center, and other public exhibitions. Recently, she successfully auctioned her butterfly sculpture at Rye’s Above Butterfly project for fundraising to support students in local communities and hosted an art exhibition charity fundraising events to support the art program at the Don Bosco community center in NY. Her two students in pencil drawing class recently won 1st place in the US State Fish Art competition for grades 4-6 and 7-9. In the fall session, students will continue learning techniques for pencil drawing and attend some art contests. Her website: http://ellenchengallery.com Class Description: It is designed for students ages 9+ with some drawing technical skills. From this course, she will teach each student to understand drawing compositions and utilize concepts of highlights, proportions, shadows, and stroke techniques. She will help students build a solid drawing foundation, and self-confidence, and explore creative abilities using pencil sketching. Materials needed: Sketchbook, pencil HB, 2B, and 4B, mono erasers. At the end of this semester, students are able to submit artwork to participate art competition.
