2014 SCCS Summer Camp Completed Successfully

The 6th Southern Connecticut Chinese School Summer Camp completed successfully when the campers gave a wonderful performance on Friday, August 22, at the New Haven Public Library. Within the short two weeks, students learned Chinese, Math, Science and Computer Programming. They also participated into various culture activities, such as making lantern, papercut and origami, practicing calligraphy and painting, visiting Yale Art Gallery, having a tour of Yale campus, and participating in exciting reading and science programs at the New Haven Public Library. Students were so happy that they improved greatly their Chinese, deepened their knowledge of Chinese culture and increased their interests in learning Chinese in this relaxing and joyful atmosphere.
八月二十二日下午，南康中文学校第六届夏令营在同学们精彩的汇报演出和家长们热烈的喝彩声中圆满地拉上了帷幕。在为期两周的时间里，同学们学习了中文、数学、科学和电脑编程课程，参加了丰富多采的文化活动，比如剪纸、折纸、丢沙包、做灯笼、画脸谱、练书法和国画，还参观了耶鲁的艺术博物馆和耶鲁校园，参加了纽黑文图书馆组织的很多有趣的活动。学生们在轻松、愉快的氛围中迅速提高了中文水平，加深了解了中国文化，增强了学习中文的兴趣。
Improving teaching quality has always been the top priority of our school. On August 23, our school was invited by Huaxia Chinese School Greater New York, the largest Chinese School in the greater New York area, to attend a teacher training in their White Plains campus. Dr. Henan Cheng, Ms. Han Zhou, Ms. Ninghui Liang and four teachers from our school (Ms. Yiguang Fu, Ms. Xintie Nie, Ms. Xia Li, and Ms. Lei Zhai) attended the training. The training covers important topics of Chinese Language teaching, including classroom management, effective teaching, classroom activities design and demonstration. After the training, we also discussed with Huaxia Chinese School’s leadership team and explored potential collaboration between the two schools in the future.
提高教学质量一直以来是我校工作的重中之重。在积极准备新学期的同时，我校还组织行政人员和教师参加教学培训工作。8月23日星期六下午，应大纽约华夏中文学校的邀请，我校执行校长程贺南，副校长周菡，教务长梁宁辉以及傅乙光老师，聂形铁老师，李夏老师，和翟雷老师牺牲个人休息时间参加了在White Plains举办的教师现场教学培训讲座。此次培训是由中国华文教育基金会主办，北京四中网校、大纽约华夏中文学校协办的“完美中国”海外华文教师培训项目的一部分。讲座内容包括汉语课堂管理，教学方法与技巧，以及如何针对学生的特点设计生动有趣的课堂活动。这次的培训令大家感到获益匪浅。讲座结束后，我们还与大纽约华夏中文学校的领导和老师进行了交流并探讨今后两校合作的机会。
The school finished the internal and external financial auditing this summer. After the professional auditors’ careful review on the financial document and records of our school, they reached the conclusion that our school finance operations are on the right track. This is the first time our school conducted a financial audit. The purpose is to ensure that our school’s finance is healthy and serves for our mission. Financial audit is another regular step on the road our school is moving along.
PTA Chair position transition. Ms Yan Huang formally transferred the PTA Chair position to the PTA Chair-to-be, Peter Ho, during the Board meeting on August 2. Mr. Ho came from Hong Kong and was elected into the School Board on April 6. Yan’s great contributions to our school are highly appreciated.
学校在暑期完成了内部和外部财务审计。专业的财务审计员们经过对我校仔细的审核得出的结论是财务运行状况良好。这是我校举行的首次财务审计。财务审计的目的是保证我校财务健康运行，并服务于我校的宗旨。通过财务审计，我校的正规化又前进了一步
PTA主席职位移交。在8月2日的理事会上，黄焰女士正式把PTA主席职位移交给候任PTA主席何颂文先生。何先生来自香港，于四月份以PTA副主席身份补选入理事会。也非常感谢黄焰女士为我校所做出的贡献。
每逢开学之际，老师们都有一个聚会。今年之聚更让我们多了一份坚定；多了一份信心；多了一份难以抵挡的团结力量。每一位老师对我们的学校都充满了干劲，责任和希望。有些资深的老师畅谈了他们的想法和建议；有的老师满怀激情想着能为我们的中文学校做些什么；还有的老师出谋划策甘做任何事情等等。再加上今年招聘的新老师，更是后浪推前浪，以非常积极向上的学习和工作态度，为我们的师资团队增添了许多光芒和色彩。另外，今年的领导团队更是三足鼎力坚不可摧。相信在大家的共同努力和奋斗中，我们的南康中文学校会越办越成功！相信自己，相信团队，相信领头人,为服务社区，为民族文化的传承，为我们中华精神的使命，向更辉煌的未来出发！
It has been our school’s tradition to organize teacher gathering at the end of summer to kick off the new school year. This year, during the gathering on August 24, our teachers shared their academic plans for 2014-2015 school year and expressed confidence to improve our school. Our new teachers are also very enthusiastic and excited to serve our students. We believe that the collective wisdom of our teachers and seamless teamwork of our leadership will transform our school to a new stage!
